Hunting Valley Retreat

HUNTING VALLEY, OHIO, USA

Constructed on a 5-acre site, originally part of the Van Sweringen Country estate and once home to the Van Sweringen brothers’ greenhouse, this residence honors the rich history of its neighborhood. As the original estate evolved with time, smaller parcels were created, and a rustic Western Reserve architectural style emerged. In form and detail, this home echoes the traditional style but offers a contemporary interpretation.

Sited to maximize views of the serene pond, the design seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings. The street-facing facade remains modest, in keeping with the neighborhood's character, while the rear of the house reveals a more playful arrangement of gables and a unique round tower form. This architectural feature acts as a hinge in the form, allowing the structure to gently wrap the extensive pool and landscape area.

Inside, the home is bright, airy, and meticulously crafted to accommodate the dynamic lifestyle of an active family. The open, flowing spaces encourage both relaxation and togetherness, making this home a true modern retreat that still resonates with the timeless elegance of its Western Reserve roots.
