CLEVELAND, OHIO, USA
Perched on a steep cliff looking over Cleveland and Lake Erie, this residential compound was designed to take full advantage of lake views and outdoor opportunities while tying into the fabric of existing homes in the historic neighborhood. The small “Boathouse” was built first and served as a bit of a laboratory for construction methods and materials in the main house. Constructed of exposed steel frames, wood and stone, this structure sits close to the shore enjoying water views and dramatic vistas of the Cleveland skyline. The primary residence is a series of orthogonal gable forms connected by a four story tower containing the connecting stair and roof top lounge. By utilizing a material palette of stucco, stone, timber, and slate, the design team was able to tie the more modern structure to the fabric of the historic neighborhood. Exterior spaces such as entry court, rooftop deck, and negative edge pool all form strong relationships with interior spaces and create seamless connections between inside and out.
