Built in 1840, this classic Nantucket saltbox was purchased by an owner who wished to renovate the house to make it more suitable for large family gatherings and guest visits. As the design evolved it became clear that a major structural reinforcement was required due to ill-informed plan revisions over the history of the house. While the construction team carefully removed interior finishes and reinforced the floors and roof, the design team reorganized the plan and designed interiors that were crafted in Ohio then shipped to the site and installed. The result was a house that is mostly unchanged on the exterior, but totally revolutionized in how it lives and its level of interior finish.
