Cawley House

AN ELEGANT SOLUTION TO A STEEP TOPOGRAPHY

BRECKSVILLE, OHIO, USA

This 10,000 square foot residence in Northeast Ohio was designed to provide an understated curb appeal while accommodating a complex program. With the site steeply sloping to the north, the main exterior space of the house is a massive south facing front porch that almost all rooms in the house open onto. The house is sited below the street level due to the grade. This perceived negative was turned into a positive with the garden design in the front. Careful grading, landscaping and the integration of a water feature allows the front porch space to flow out into a intimate garden space that embraces it’s benign southern exposure. This house was designed for extended family gatherings, entertaining, and large-scale artwork.
